On this episode of the Farm Business Options Webinar series which took place on Tuesday, 13th April, Barry Caslin was joined by Elaine Leavy, Teagasc Organic Specialist and Clive Bright, Organic grass only farmer, Sligo to discuss organic farming - steps to conversion and opportunities.
Elaine Leavy, Teagasc Organic Specialist gave an overview of the Organic Farming Scheme which is currently open for applications, balancing profit and sustainability, key considerations and opportunities which organic farming can offer.
Clive Bright, who is an organic grass only farmer based in Sligo also joined the webinar to give an insight into his journey farming organically to date.

On a recent Teagasc Research Insights webinar which took place on Wednesday, 14th April, Michael O Donovan, Head of Grassland Science, Teagasc was joined by Michael Dineen, Research Officer to discuss new insights to feeding dairy cows at pasture.
The results from a joint research programme between Teagasc Moorepark and Department of Animal Science, Cornell University were presented by Michael Dineen.

Are you looking to make better grazing decisions on your farm in April? On this webinar which took place on Wednesday, 7th April, John Douglas & Joseph Dunphy, Teagasc Grass10 and Micheal O Leary, PastureBase Ireland go through how you can use PastureBase Ireland to plan your spring grazing.
The Grass10 and PastureBase team gave an update on Spring grass supply & grazing from PastureBase Ireland, as well as tips and advice on managing the 2
nd rotation during April. They gave an overview of the terms used on PastureBase Ireland such as Average Farm Cover, Cover per Livestock Unit, Demand and Days Ahead so you can make better grazing decisions. The panel also outlined how to set your farm up with quality grass as we transition from low to high growth rates.

On this episode of the Let s Talk Dairy webinar series, Stuart Childs, Teagasc Dairy Specialist talks to us about bull selection targets.
Stuart recaps on an overall guideline that Teagasc have issued to people in relation to the breeding targets for this year. How breeding can influence the direction of your herd will also be discussed. Over the last couple of years, there has been less emphasis put on the selection of bulls and more of a focus put on it now apposed to a herd trying to improve the breeding decisions for the farm itself. Stuart takes us through the 2021 bull selection targets relating to the thresholds of EBI, Fertility, Milk and Health.
