Operation to capture elephant continues Updated: Updated: Share Article The wild elephant was spotted on the outskirts of Dharwad on Monday.   The operation to capture the wild elephant that strayed onto the Karnatak University campus in Dharwad on Sunday continued on Monday. After being alerted by some shepherds who spotted the wild elephant in an open space behind the Police Training Academy on Kalghatgi Road near Dharwad, a team of officials led by Deputy Conservator of Forests Yashpal Ksheersagar rushed to the spot. Mr. Ksheersagar said that the elephant had tried to cross the bypass road but had retracted owing to movement of vehicles and subsequently, strayed back to the sand depot behind the Police Training Academy.

MLA tests positive for COVID-19

Narasimha Nayak   Narasimha Nayak (Rajugowda), MLA and Chairman of Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board, has tested positive for COVID-19. He has been admitted to a private hospital in Bengaluru. Releasing a video clip, Mr. Nayak confirmed the news and appealed to his followers and party workers not to worry as he is doing well. Ambedkar, Mr. Nayak said that his followers should not get anxious over his health condition. “I am having minor symptoms of COVID-19 and getting treatment here. Those who came in contact with me in the last four-five days should get tested if they see any symptoms,” he added.

The tusker, aged about 32 years, was sighted in the Ammathi-Hoskote region a few days and there were complaints of the elephant going berserk which created panic among the local people. The Forest Department launched an operation with six camp elephants and 60 staff who zeroed in on the wild tusker and managed to corner it. Camp elephant Abhimanyu was accompanied by elephants Arjuna, Gopalkrishna, Ganesha, Gajendra and Bhima who closed in enabling the veterinarians to fire a tranquilizer.
