Wood BOE anticipates $3M funding drop | News, Sports, Jobs

tbennett@newsandsentinel.com The Wood County Schools Board of Education recognized three students Tuesday as 2021 National Merit Scholarship Finalists. From left are Cecelia Fatta (Parkersburg), Nicholas Murphy (Parkersburg South) and Jacob Huggins (Williamstown). (Photo Provided) PARKERSBURG Due to decreased enrollment in Wood County Schools, Superintendent Will Hosaflook said the district will receive fewer funds for the 2022 fiscal year during the Wood County Schools Board of Education meeting Tuesday. The district’s state aid fund will be reduced by $3 million, going from around $59 million to $56 million, Hosaflook said. Hosaflook said the state’s aid formula is built on student enrollment and despite the closing of schools in the district to lower professional employees, Wood County is still over the state limit. Wood County last year had 31.66 professional employees over the state formula and he hopes to have that reduced to be over 25 or 26 employees, he said.
