Fenwick s Doherty goes distance for all-state honors

 Junior Anna Doherty truly went great lengths this season to become the greatest 500-yard freestyler in Fenwick High School girls swimming and diving history.

Fenwick girls swimming solid in MCAC meet

The Fenwick High School varsity girls swimming team finished in fourth place with 271 points at the Metro Catholic Aquatic Conference meet held at Fenwick on Oct. 21.Although they didn’t win any events, several solid individual performances were turned in by the Friars. Sophomore Claire Wood took third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.43 and sixth in the 100 freestyle in 54.90 seconds.

Fenwick, OPRF shine at Friar Invite

The Fenwick and OPRF girls swim teams continued their strong seasons Saturday at Fenwick High School, as Fenwick placed second (401 points) and OPRF placed fifth (293 points) at the Friar Invite. The Friars took second place in the 200 yard medley relay (1:53.07), 200 yard freestyle relay (1:42.55), and 400 yard freestyle relay (3:45.29) as senior captain Cailey Peele rounded out the relay teams for all three.“I was a little nervous because this is our big meet,” Peele said, “but I’m glad our team performed well overall.”Peele also placed sixth in the 50-yard freestyle (25.83) while Junior Evelyn Mulvihill took second (25.40) and Freshman Maggie Raniere placed third (25.71). Mulvihill and Raniere also swam in the 200-yard medley relay along with Freshman Joey Dumm, while the 200-yard freestyle relay consisted of Peele and Reniere with Sophomore Claire Wood and Senior Alex Lefko.The Friars have put up solid times throughout the season and have been training well with new head

New coach takes on lauded Fenwick girls swimming team

Fenwick High School’s girls swimming and diving team has a new leader this season as Ben Munster takes over the head coaching duties from Steve Thompson, who led the program the past three years.“The facilities, environment, and athletes for a state-leading program exist here,” said Munster. “The transition has been great thus far, and the swimmers work hard every day to meet the high academic and athletic expectations.”A former swimmer at Virginia Tech, Munster comes to Fenwick with eight years of coaching experience. He has worked at swim clubs in California, Colorado, and Georgia, and recently was an assistant coach locally with the Hinsdale Swim Club.
