In a packed City Hall Wednesday evening, Cocoa welcomed its new chief of police and the first Black head of the department, former Jacksonville Sheriff s Office lieutenant Evander Collier IV.
Collier spoke to the public and media about his excitement to join the agency of a combined 110 sworn officers and civilian employees.
“I’m really thrilled to death. I’ve prepared my entire career as a law enforcement officer for a day like today. With the goal of one day of leading an agency like that in Cocoa, Collier said.
“The more I ve talked to people in the community, I get more and more excited about this opportunity. The people here in Cocoa really care about the city, he added.
