Faye Hyde’s moving photo became the image of April 27, 2011 tornadoes. Here’s what she’s doing now
Updated 7:41 AM;
Nothing told the story of the April 27, 2011 tornadoes in Alabama better than the picture of Faye Hyde sitting atop a mattress on the site of the demolished house where she lived, hugging her granddaughter, Sierra Goldsmith, wrapping her tight in a quilt.
Sitting behind her on the mattress were her two grandsons, twins Ethan and Evan Goldsmith, who were five at the time. Walking nearby was her husband, Willie Ray “Buddy” Hyde.
Somehow, they all emerged from the collapsed house unharmed.
