add water volume to an already dangerous situation. so even on a normal day, a normal weekend when we experience our king tides, you ll see roads overflowing with water. you ll see canals overflowing their banks. so when you add water from storm on top of that, whether it be rain or storm surge, it just makes the situation worse. what can you tell us, chief, about how evacuations are going right now? well, evacuations are not occurring in the city of miami or the miami-dade area. those evacuations are now occurring further north, so hopefully the residents are adhering to the requested evacuation notices, and those that are not evacuating, whether they re not in an evacuation zone or, god forbid, choosing not to evacuate, they are fortifying their shelter, ensuring they have the appropriate supplies, and giving the rescuers the time they will
cone is going to move to the left. and that means the potential, you know, from a tropical storm force wind to a hurricane force wind. that s why, because of the uncertainty, i need people to stay alert, know your forecast and know what your local officials are saying because we still could see evacuation notices across the state of florida. back to you. thank you, janice. thanks so much. we re going to bring in jawk woods, ceo of team rubicon, welcome to the show, jake. thank you. can you talk to us a little bit about how team rubicon plans to respond to the hurricane with disaster relief and other resources? we ve been tracking this storm. our national operation center in dallas, texas has been working around the clock in preparation. we ve been moving people and assets initially into atlanta, georgia but now they re making their way into florida.
the president doesn t prioritize being the comforter in chief or being somebody who has to you know oversee a disaster. he prioritizes being able to oversee state ceremonies at mar-a-lago and things of that nature. that s what he cares about. let s go to florida where i understand the governor is speaking. we ll listen to him for a few moments. we re going to be monitoring the situation, working with our federal and local partners, fema has been engaged with us from the beginning. we have time to take some questions. i want to ask you with the two counties that have issued evacuation notices, are you doing anything to enhance that evacuation, lifting tolls or doing anything with the shoulders? we are going to monitor the traffic flows and if the traffic becomes abnormal, we will take needed action to alleviate that.
evacuation notices and get out of there. i know some people have houses that can withstand the winds of the hurricane and they re also up on stilts and they can survive some surge. sometimes those surges can be big on a large hurricane, and maybe even some of those houses aren t quite high enough. so the best advice is to get out of there. once you do go inland, the threat isn t over as well as you guys were talking about. this hurricane could potentially slow down over florida, and then you have inland flooding to worry about from all the rain as that surge comes ashore. you know, that water has nowhere to drain, and if that thing stalls out over florida, it could be a really bad flooding situation here. major population centers are under threat. does that make it more difficult to prepare for? it absolutely does, especially here in orlando. i thought i was getting here in plenty of time to get my supplies that i need to be able to intercept the hurricane and make sure i can survi
