welcome to our viewers around the world and in the united states. welcome to cnn newsroom. i m natalie allen. we begin with the horror in aleppo. thousands trapped in eastern aleppo. still trapped, hope a new evacuation deal could save their lives. civilians there are starving and afraid. and somehow they re existing in freezing temperatures. reuters is reporting the syrian government has confirmed the evacuation deal but that doesn t mean it will hold. just on friday, the last vac wapgss were suspended. the new deal, well it s more complicated. syria and its ally, iran, want the two towns on the lower left of this map to also be evacuated. those towns are near idlip city and have been besieged by rebels.
civilians have been evacuated from the city. conor powell is live in jerusalem with the latest on the story. connor. reporter: we expect that vote to happen any minute now. sometime in the next couple of hours. but whether or not the u.n. approves this plan to send observers to syria won t make a difference to those civilians an people caught in the cross fire at this very moment. there have been efforts underway for the last week to try to get civilians out of the conflict areas. a few thousand have been able to leave but many are are trying to get out of the areas over the weekend and civilians including children waiting for buses came under heavy fire reportedly from pro-assad forces and a new evacuation deal was supposed to go into effect on saturday to replace the previous ones but it appears that is breaking down as well. a convey of buses were set afire inform an attack by rebel fires earlier this weekend. some 15,000 people spent the night in freezing temperatures hoping to g
