The information is gathered using a range of sophisticated equipment including multi-beam echo sounder sonar, high accuracy GPS , sound sensor, shore mounted tide gauges, and computers and navigation software to interface sensors together andrecord datasets. Jimmy van der Pauw, who is leading the survey team with LINZ senior hydrographer Bradley Cooper, and data scientist Eva Lichtenburg-Cloo, said the best part of the survey was finding unexpected seafloor features.
