Michael Sinclair
This year has taught me to appreciate the fundamental purpose of a home: to look after its inhabitants, and to foster a sense of security and shelter. This can come simply from the sense of abundance one gets from a gentle bit of stocking-up, owning matches and candles, and the sense that, if needed, you can make at least one type of moonshine. So I will try, instead of worrying for a moment about being stylish or elegant, think about how sheer curtains can best play with the light in sunnier rooms, or how a heavy curtain and door sausage keeps you snug against draughts in winter. On such a note, this year I invested in some candle sconces for my walls and enjoy lighting them for the last hour or my day in winter. –
