Fuel stations in Karnataka will no longer be required to install electrical transformers on their premises, according to the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC). This exemption will facilitate the installation of charging points for electric vehicles (EVs) and enable petrol bunks to serve as major sources of EV charging points. Previously, the installation of transformers at refuelling stations was hindered by conflicting regulations from the Electricity Act and the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO). Oil companies sought an amicable solution, and KERC granted the exemption. However, the cost of setting up transformers and transmission lines will be recovered elsewhere, and LT connections will be provided for setting up EV charging ports.
