Uzbek dissident artist Vyacheslav Akhunov faced censorship under the Soviet Union and Uzbekistan’s first president, Islam Karimov. Now he believes Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is behind an official decision to bar his painting from being shown in the state art museum in Tashkent.
The meeting will bring together U.S. and Russian foreign ministers, along with European members. Russia’s seven-month war in Ukraine, its decision to mobilize more troops and its veiled threat of using nuclear weapons are on the agenda.
