Egyptian side Al Ahly have defeated Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds 4-2 in the Club World Cup third place play-off. The African champions broke through early, leading 2-0 by the 25th minute through goals by Yasser Ibrahim and Percy Tau. The Asian champions fought back though, levelling the match with goals either side of half-time from Jose Kante and Alexander Scholz. Unfortunately for Urawa Reds, an own goal would be their undoing, Yoshio Koizumi turning the ball into his own net just six minutes after they equalised. Ali Maaloul then sealed the win with a beautiful free-kick goal in the eighth minute of stoppage time to give Al Ahly their third third-place finish in the past four years.
