Tommie s lasting legacy of accuracy, humanity and trust

One of the iconic careers in Irish broadcasting will draw to a close in April when Sligo s Tommie Gorman steps down as RTÉ s Northern Editor. The announcement of the Cairns Road native s impending departure late last week resulted in an outpouring of tributes from home and abroad including at Monday s monthly meeting of Sligo County Council. Having also served as North Western Correspondent, as well as a stint as European Editor in Brussels, Mr Gorman has been one of the most recognisable faces in Irish journalism for the duration of his career.
