Taiwan attends EU civil protection forum

Taipei, June 30 (CNA) The European Commission invited Taiwan to attend a civil protection forum held earlier this week in Brussels for the first time, where representatives of the country shared its experiences in digital disaster prevention, the Executive Yuan said Thursday.

© European Union, 2015 Today, Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič kick-starts the 7th European Civil Protection Forum. In a warm-up session, dedicated to the topic of Cross-sectoral cooperation in times of crisis, the Commissioner, as well as various stakeholders in the field of Civil Protection and health, meet to discuss lessons learnt and the importance of cooperation in times of crisis. On this occasion, Janez Lenarčič said: “The past year has seen the globe turned upside down by Covid-19. Apart from its devastating immediate impact on public health, the pandemic has also acted as a huge amplifier for other emergencies. The European Commission has quickly drawn the main lessons and embarked on a series of practical steps as well as legislative to further strengthen the Union Civil Protection Mechanism and enhance its ability to support the Member States in case all of them are overwhelmed by the same crisis”.
