It’s time for another edition of Tuesday night NXT! Still loving the Poppy theme.
Dakota Kai vs. Mercedes Martinez
How do you make sure I’m locked into your show right off the bat? You open with Dakota Kai. I’ve mentioned before but my favorite three women in wrestling are Sasha Banks, Dakota Kai, and Sonya Deville. I’ve also liked Martinez since her days with SHIMMER. I think this worked as a good blend of styles. Kai can work well with everyone and she did well to let Martinez showcase her power. It helps set up Martinez as a threat and possible equal to Raquel’s size. Kai took control going into a break and grounded Martinez before firing off a barrage of kicks and a sweet Codebreaker. Commentary also made sure to drop plenty of hints about a possible Kai/Gonzalez match and who was really in control. Martinez rallied and hit Gonzalez before setting up Kai for her finisher. Mercedes Martinez looks to send a message to the NXT Women’s Champion by taking down Dakota Kai. Watch WWE action on Peacock, WWE Network, FOX, USA Network, Sony India and more. With NXT Women s Champion Raquel Gonzalez looking on, Mercedes Martinez and Dakota Kai battled in a seesaw affair. Martinez and Gonzalez eventually found themselves face to face on the outside, with Martinez dropping the champion with a straight right. Gonzalez retaliated back in the ring with a massive boot, forcing the disqualification. But Martinez was anything but a winner, as Big Mami Cool left her lying after a savage assault.

The Tuesday escapades continues with the return of Adam Cole for the first time since his loss at Takeover. That could be interesting, though if nothing else it is kind of a relief that he is not heading up to the main roster. Other than that, we have a pretty big six man tag to fill out the wrestling side of things. Let’s get to it.

Dakota Kai vs. Mercedes Martinez
Raquel Gonzalez is here with Kai. Martinez gets taken to the mat to start but bounces out of a headscissors and slaps her in the face. Back up and Martinez hits a spinning spinebuster (it seems like we get three of those per show these days) for two but Kai grabs a Rock Bottom backbreaker for the same. The running boot in the corner misses though and Martinez hammers away.

Right off the bat, while I dislike the new NXT logo, I love that Poppy got the theme. NXT often makes huge swings and misses with their TakeOver song choices by relying on out-of-touch musicians but Poppy is their best bet in recent years.
Kyle O’Reilly kicked things off. He was in a good mood after TakeOver and discussed what his future potentially held in regards to winning championships. He went to call out Karrion Kross but was interrupted by Cameron Grimes. I love Grimes. He wanted them to work together as Grimes could invest in him and they could go TO THE MOON. Of course, Kyle eventually leveled Grimes and set the tone for a match tonight. Kyle’s gimmick is goofy but he’s a weird dude and it works for him. Fine enough as an opening segment.

They are going to have a hard time topping what they did last week but NXT can figure it out as well as anyone else. The big story tonight is the return of Kyle O’Reilly for the first time in a long thirteen days, though it isn’t clear what he’ll be doing. You could easily put him into the title picture with Karrion Kross but he might be dealing with Adam Cole for a bit longer. Let’s get to it.

Here is Kyle O’Reiilly……in a jean jacket, a hat and sunglasses. Kyle talks about what a great time he is having and asks if we can turn the lights up. Oh never mind as it’s just the sunglasses making things seem dark. Anyway, he is so happy because Adam Cole isn’t here and that makes things better. Now it is time to move on, but what is next for him? At Takeover, he learned that you need that killer instinct to succeed. He needs to go after a title, but which one? Should he try for the workhorse title w
