The Eureka Springs Parks and Recreation Commission met for a special called meeting on Jan. 11 to change the list of authorized check signers.
Chairwoman Ruth Hager said the commission would need to remove former director Justin Huss, as well as a few former commissioners including Christian Super who resigned earlier this month. The commission would need to add interim director Scott Miskiel and new commissioners to the list, Hager said.
Hager didnt state the names of the commissioners, but parks office employee Nicky Boyette confirmed later that the commissioners added to the list are Kevin Ruehle and Dave Hartmann.

The Eureka Springs Parks and Recreation Commission has a lot of work to do in 2021, and interim director Scott Miskiel said his team is ready for that challenge.
Miskiel, who was named interim director last October after the firing of former director Justin Huss, said hes working on getting parks finances in order. Miskiel said the commission voted last year to take financial reports out of the previous directors hands and hire an accountant. The third-quarter financials for 2020 are still being processed, Miskiel said, and the fourth0quarter financials will come after that.

Scott Miskiel, interim director of the Eureka Springs Parks and Recreation Department, met for more than two hours on Wednesday, Dec. 23, with parks commissioner Kevin Ruehle and grounds and natural resources manager Dave Renko to review preliminary budget figures for 2021.
Although the discussion was nominally a meeting of the parks commissions finance committee, Ruehle was the only commissioner present as Miskiel outlined a draft budget that projects a net income of minus-$200,317.28 for 2021. That number could change significantly because expenditures such as $25,000 for a new maintenance vehicle could be deferred for another year and Miskiel said he intentionally took a conservative approach when projecting income from sources such as shuttle service for the downhill mountain bike trails at Lake Leatherwood City Park.
The Eureka Springs Parks and Recreation Commission has hired a new employee.
At the commissions Dec. 15 meeting, interim director Scott Miskiel said hed like the commission to consider creating a new position for the grounds and natural resources manager. Miskiel addressed the issue during the directors comments, saying the position would include various responsibilities that will enable us to better coordinate the things like trails, maintenance and road maintenance.
It will supervise some of the gardening issues in town and so much more, and I know well go into executive session about the specifics of that position but Im really excited about the prospect of this because of the things that this position will bring to the table, Miskiel said. I look forward to going into executive session and hopefully coming out of it with the commission having approved this position.
