After 4 1/2 hours of deliberations, a jury convicted a man on May 13 of raping a Brazilian au pair on vacation in Pacific Beach and sexually assaulting another young woman in 2018, both at knifepoint.
The shooter dressed in black and painted his guns white, a prosecutor said.
Around dawn, he drove his brother’s car to North Park and waited about an hour. When the gunman’s target his ex-girlfriend’s new fiancé came outside, he pulled the trigger, shooting the victim multiple times at close range, “executing him,” Deputy District Attorney Ramona McCarthy said.
Those and other allegations were revealed in court Wednesday as a San Diego man pleaded not guilty in the Feb. 1 shooting death of Cathedral Catholic High school teacher Mario Fierro.
Jesse Milton Alvarez, 30, is accused of murder and using a gun to commit the crime, along with the special-circumstance allegation of lying in wait.
Truck Crashes into Chicano Park, Four Dead

A truck driving on the on-ramp to the Coronado Bridge crashed over the side railing and landed in Chicano Park on Saturday, October 15, killing four people and injuring eight others.
The driver, Navy aviation technician Richard Sepolio, 24, was heading home to Coronado after drinking wine and cocktails at a restaurant and visiting a friend’s home. The friend counseled Sepolio not to drive after drinking, according to a county district attorney prosecutor.
Sepolio lost control of his truck as he transitioned from Northbound I-5 onto the Coronado Bridge. His truck flew over the concrete guardrail, fell 60 feet and landed in Chicano Park during a motorcycle event with over 3,000 attendees. Four people were declared dead at the scene.
