California Lady Pintos softball returned to the diamond on Friday night when they hosted Russellville, Jamestown and Eugene at the California Softball Tournament.
A total of 22 players were selected to the all-state softball teams, which were released last weekend by the Missouri High School Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Russellville senior Cali Coombs had the biggest of smiles as she was rounding the bases Friday afternoon at Killian Softball Complex. After all, home runs in the Final Four don’t happen every day. Coombs’ three-run home run in the fourth inning helped lift the Lady Indians to an 11-4 victory against the Eugene Lady Eagles in the Class 2 third-place game.
To reach the Final Four for the first time in program history, the Eugene Lady Eagles were going to have to beat the Kelly Lady Hawks, one of the most decorated softball programs in Missouri high school history. Mission accomplished. Eugene scored three runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back Thursday night, as the Lady Eagles defeated Kelly 5-0 in a Class 2 quarterfinal game at Eugene High School.
It’s going to be a busy day on the softball field for the Show-Me Conference. Three teams - the Fatima Lady Comets, the Russellville Lady Indians and the Eugene Lady Eagles - will each play for a spot tonight in the state softball Final Four after winning district titles last week.
