The EU agreed in principle terms for investment from China at the end of 2020, with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen suggesting earlier this month they forced Beijing to commit to an end to forced labour. Walter Lohman, director of the Asian Studies Centre at the Heritage Foundation’s US think tank, said the EU “got used” by China with their Comprehensive Agreement on Investment (CAI).

The German Chancellor will meet the US leader in a virtual meeting of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) together with French President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
