Hikers who brave the Pacific Crest Trail and stop in Etna may remember their time in the small town by purchasing a travel patch. Those who do so in 2021 will be purchasing the design of Etna High School freshman Ava Padgett, whose logo features the words Etna CA in a constellation of stars and the town s latitude and longitude.
Padgett s design was selected for mass production by voters on the City of Etna and Pacific Crest Trail Facebook pages.
EHS graphics class teacher Lynn Karpinski commended all the participants for their designs. “It s a challenge because so many of the patch designs are excellent,” she said. “It s really difficult to pick just one.

The Etna Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who attempted to rob the Ray’s Food Place on Monday evening.
The suspect, who was wearing multiple layers of clothing, including face coverings and dark sunglasses, was armed with a handgun, according to a press release from the EPD, which is being assisted in its investigation by the Department of Justice’s Bureau of Forensic Sciences.
The suspect entered the store on Collier Way just before 10 p.m. on Feb. 8, approached an employee, “forcefully grabbed them” and demanded money while brandishing the gun, the EPD said.
