ADDIS ABABA, May 2 (Xinhua) Abdissa Yilma, Director General of the Ethiopian Space Science and Technology Institute (ESSTI), is optimistic Ethiopia will effectively tackle the adverse effects of climate change through science-driven and informed decision making with the help of China-backed satellites.
The ESSTI, a young Ethiopian institution that seeks to exploit the multidimensional use of space science and technologies, aims to eventually enable the country s aspiration of building an environment-friendly and climate-resilient economy.
Courtesy of the ever-expanding Sino-Ethiopia ties, Yilma believes this aspiration is fast becoming a reality. The director general, in particular, spoke highly of Ethiopia s recent launch of two Chinese-backed satellites.

The 4th AF-SGW was themed, A United Africa for Space Innovation: A Step Towards Our Common Future . It was a hybrid event: attendees who couldn t travel to Ghana to attend in-person joined virtually.
In collaboration with its sponsors and partners, the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) held the 4th African Space Generation Workshop (AF-SGW) on February 25–26, 2021, at the GIMPA Conference Hall Accra, Ghana.
The 4th AF-SGW ought to have held in November 2020, but it was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Hence, a call for a hosting city has been put out for the 5th AF-SGW. The call is open to SGAC members in the African region. But countries that have hosted a major SGAC regional event in the past three years cannot bid again. These include Ethiopia, Ghana, Mauritius, and Nigeria.

A new Chinese launch vehicle, the Long March 8, has successfully placed five payloads into orbit on its first mission, debuting an expendable booster intended to eventually be outfitted for recovery and reuse.
The Long March 8 rocket took off from the Wenchang satellite launch center on Hainan Island, China’s newest spaceport, at 11:37 p.m. EST Dec. 21 (0437 GMT; 12:37 p.m. Beijing time Dec. 22), Chinese space program officials said.

Luxembourg; 21 December 2020: As of 1 January 2021, Ethiopian TV audiences will access majority of their favourite Ethiopian TV channels exclusively on Ethiosat at 57 degrees East. Ethiopian viewers should have their respective local satellite antenna installer adjust the position of their antenna to access the Ethiosat direct-to-home platform, following the press announcement from the Ethiopian Government on Tuesday 15 December in Addis Ababa.

As of 1 Jan 2021, Ethiopian TV audiences will need to adjust their respective local satellite antennae to 57 degrees East to access the SES-hosted Ethiosat direct-to-home platform which offers exclusively majority of popular Ethiopian TV channels.
Ethiosat is Ethiopia’s first-ever dedicated free-to-air (FTA) TV platform, hosted on SES’s NSS-12 satellite. The platform was launched in October 2019 as a result of an agreement between the Association of Ethiopian Broadcasters (AEB), the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) and SES to consolidate all Ethiopian TV channels and broadcast them from one orbital position rather than having viewers navigate through a multitude of foreign channels. Ethiosat currently delivers 65 channels to Ethiopian homes, with 16 of those channels already in High Definition (HD) quality, which will be exclusive as of 1 January, a first for Ethiopia.
