KPA readies for first ship at Lamu Port, equipping facility by MARTIN MWITA

•Yard and marine services operations equipment for the first berth have been identified, and a contract awarded for the transportation of these equipment.
•First cargo will be headed to Ethiopia, the key transit destination targeted for the port.
Equipping of Lamu Port has resumed and is at an advanced stage, authorities in the project have confirmed, with the facility expected to become operational in June.
This is after delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic last year, which slowed down procurement processes for equipment.

Meles Zenawi led Ethiopia from 1991 until his death in 2012
The daughter of the late former Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi has been arrested, her mother has told the BBC.
Semahal Meles was arrested in Tigray s regional capital of Mekelle, former first lady Azeb Mesfin said.
The Ethiopian authorities have not commented on the alleged arrest.
Federal troops took over Mekelle at the end of last month after weeks of conflict with fighters loyal to the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) - the party that used to control the region.

The daughter of former Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi has been arrested. Her mother Azeb Mesfin told the BBC that Semhal Meles was arrested in Mekelle, Tigray. She had apparently travelled to Mekelle before the conflict, to conduct research for a film about her late father. We are do not have any reason why she was detained by the police at this time.
Berhanemeskel Hayelom, son of ex Ethiopian General, Hayelom Araya, is also detained along with Semhal.
