Ethan Boyd s father recalls when the MSU football commit was a child. It feels like it wasn t that long ago the high school senior was. It just cracks me up, Phillip Boyd said. I can remember when he was a baby and he used to sleep on my chest at night . and now? He laughed, gazing at the 6-foot-7 offensive lineman that dwarfed every reporter that questioned him after he etched his name on to a piece of paper.

One by one, the first-year Spartans’ head coach rattled off seven sets of figures as he introduced his first signing class: Offensive line (6-foot-6, 302 pounds), defensive line (6-foot-6, 280 pounds), defensive back (6-foot, 178 pounds), quarterback (6-foot-6, 230 pounds), running back (6-foot-1, 205 pounds), tight end (6-foot-4, 220 pounds) and linebacker (6-foot-3, 220 pounds).
The fact that Tucker had that information and emphasized it early in his press conference is telling of one of his top recruiting priorities.

The first National Signing Day of Mel Tucker’s tenure as Michigan State’s football coach is here. Nearly all of
the Spartans’ class of 2021 commitments will be signing binding national letters of intent Wednesday, the start of the Early Signing Period, which runs through Friday.

MSU
has 18 public commitments at the start of the day, though its three highest-ranked recruits are not expected to sign letters today four-star defensive tackle Rayshaun Benny, four-star running back Audric Estime and three-star offensive lineman Geno VanDeMark. The Spartans’ class ranked No. 42 nationally as of Wednesday morning.
