they are shivering in texas. it was colder in dallas this morning than in anchorage, alaska. the city struggles to clear roads and highways covered with ice and snow. jacqui jeras, who got a good laugh out of here, is tracking the snow and ice in texas and the rest of today s weather. jacqui, what are we seeing here? it s a travel nightmare for a lot of people between dallas and jackson, it s just terrible. freezing rain and we ve got snow and ice and making things treacherous. five inches on the ground in dallas. houston, texas, you ve gn dealing with freezing rain. a live picture out of houston this hour where parts of the interstate are shut down. it s nothing but ice. the traffic at a near standstill. numerous accidents reported all over that area. it s not just the bridges and overpasses. it s the main surface streets as well. use extreme caution and stay home today if you can. the airways, we have closures
call it. it happened at 11:00 last night. volkswagen sedan was pulled over in pasadena. look at him swerving down the road. he took off. this thing lasted for 45 minutes. he got so fast during the surface streets, boom, there it was. he hit that car that was a mazda caught off guard. there was a 20-year-old woman in that mazda and believe it or not she suffered moderate injuries. she was taken to the hospital. she is apparently going to be fine. the suspect is under guard at a hospital. it took three or four minutes to get him out. even though was hurt, he was still struggling with the cops. this was a minor traffic violation. now they are testing him for dui, drugs and other things. he s going from the hospital bed to jail. 11:00 last night.
early morning hours of this monday morning. now, downtown memphis as you might imagine, a lot of folks were on their way to work, this morning. when they found treacherous roads. now, one of the busiest bridges in our area is the i-40 bridge and we ll take you there for a second. that is the i-40 bridge, goes over the mississippi river. now, you have a lot of commuters that come from west memphis arkansas and the eastern edge of arkansas, coming into the city of memphis, to work. now, that was a big concern, because, of course, the possibility of icing over, but, there has not been any major concerns on the i-40 bridge, many of the surface streets, here in the city of memphis have not been plowed but in the last hour we have seen tdot, tennessee department of transportation, plowing the major roads and the major roads are getting heavy treatment and it is not just memphis we are looking at.
