A lot of misinformation about our congregation and Council has appeared in Eesti Elu and the Estonian World Review. The Council of St. Peter’s church wishes to clarify its actions and the decisions which have been taken to solve the congregation’s financial problems.
We emphasize that Council has had no discussions nor has it any connection with the International Estonian Centre (Keskus).
Close to 2000 people have signed the petition to Save St. Peter’s Estonian Evangelical Church.
Many have spoken eloquently about the need to save this legacy of ours in Canada.
We now need YOUR urgent help to save the beautiful green-roofed architectural gem known as St. Peter’s Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church at 817 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto, designed by famous architect Mihkel (Michael) Bach. The church is at a cross-roads in its history. Current management proposed that the church be sold to a developer. A recent vote held in March stopped the sale of the church, but just barely.
Why have Ukrainians from the outset of the invasion of their homeland rushed to pile sandbags to protect their churches and other cultural landmarks? Why do Estonians in Toronto appear bent on rushing to demolish theirs?
