Random: Gamers Can Be Pigs, According To Science

We know that you spent hours on Wind Waker s Outset Island terrorising the little piggies that roamed freely around the place. We know that you chucked them in the ocean, and off cliffs.
We saw everything. Well, the pigs are about to get their revenge, because scientists taught them how to play video games.
Scientist researchers at Pennsylvania State University just completed a study in which they wanted to figure out if pigs could be successfully taught to play games, through reward-oriented tasks.
Don t worry, the pigs aren t coming for your Fortnite trophies just yet - they were given a special, very basic video game to play, called SIDE. All they had to do was nudge a joystick with their snouts, in order to get the cursor to touch the edge of the screen. Once they did, the computer would go bloop (the scientific term, of course) and the pigs would receive a dog food pellet, as well as praise from their handler.

As some humans still struggle to play video games well, the competition in the gaming sphere has suddenly gotten a little more fierce. Scientists have successfully taught pigs to work arcade-style joysticks in such a way that they can now steer on-screen cursors into walls. Yes, pigs have begun learning basic arcade gaming.

The news comes from a published study in Frontiers in Psychology. Here s a summary of their report:
The ability of two Panepinto micro pigs and two Yorkshire pigs (Sus scrofa) to acquire a joystick-operated video-game task was investigated. Subjects were trained to manipulate a joystick that controlled movement of a cursor displayed on a computer monitor. The pigs were required to move the cursor to make contact with three-, two-, or one-walled targets randomly allocated for position on the monitor, and a reward was provided if the cursor collided with a target. The video-task acquisition
