[cheers and applause] jose is a san francisco native, born and raised in the mission district. he has worked in the nonprofit community for almost 30 years and is well known and respected for his support of youth involvement and empowerment. he has dedicated his work to make sure toyouth are well represented in our opportunity and that they had the opportunity to experience the wealth and richness of music and the arts. congratulations, and thank you for all your work in the mission district. [applause] the next awards tonight is a very special one to talk about, because it is all about community to that is pretty much what we are about here tonight at city hall. to present this next award is dr. estella garcia, who was recognized with this award last year. [applause] thank you for joining us tonight. tonight we re recognizing the community service award of 2011, eva reale. born and raised in hanford, california. she attended san francisco state university in 1971. she became a student teacher and has fought for at the studies
people throughout the world in his struggle for social justice. he studied at chico state where he had a scholarship for soccer. he studied international relations and latin american studies. after school, he came back to the mission. he worked in many places including housing. he helped to organize and found people organizing for environmental justice. he was one of the co-founders of the mission and the displacement coalition in the 1990 s when many families were being displaced out of the mission. he also was one of the founders of the grassroots democratic club. he is a great friend stu so many of you her is a great friend to many viewers here tonight. we will greatly miss him. we re very thankful to you for raising the son that you raised and gave to us. thank you.
