TM to move out from Menara Telekom

PETALING JAYA: Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) is planning to move out from the iconic Menara Telekom that has been put up for sale, and utilise its current buildings to optimise the relocation of its staff and operations.

Trio seek judicial review over MIA probe into their roles in 1MDB audit

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 13): Deloitte PLT partner Mark Evelyn Thomson and two former auditors of the firm have launched a legal challenge against the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) over its probe into their roles in the 1MDB audit for 2013 and 2014. Thomson, together with Tan Theng Hooi and Cheong Thoong Farn, have filed an application for judicial review against MIA and the institute’s investigation and disciplinary committees. The trio had been referred to the two committees in September last year over alleged breaches in the 1MDB audit. In the application filed at the High Court through their legal firm, Weng & Co, the three men are seeking to quash the decision by the investigating committee to refer them to the disciplinary committee.

RM2 2 mln fine on Deloitte PLT by SC is appropriate

KUALA LUMPUR: The decision by the Securities Commission (SC) to impose a fine of RM2.2 million on Deloitte PLT was appropriate and proportionate to the gravity and seriousness of the breaches committed by the auditing firm, said High Court Judge Datuk Seri Mariana Yahya. In dismissing Deloitte’s application for a judicial review to challenge the ruling by the SC, she said, the court was of the view that the SC had not misdirected itself in law or failed to take into account relevant consideration in arriving at its decision. “The respondent (SC) has applied the proper construction and interpretation of the relevant legislative provisions in light of duties and responsibilities of the respondent as a regulator of the capital markets.
