because wasn t being taught insanity. i don t do wineries so you can find but mona, let s bring this out a little bit. and they talked about coming into the idea of using this as a tool to elevate up the santa -ism, what are your thoughts? there is this something that the donors think that they are being sneaky picky with, or what? don t you have a little ptsd here? it s like 2016, where the establishment people are saying, well, we can t have trump, so we re going to get behind jeb bush or scott walker or somebody. and i m afraid that because there are so many establishment types who are saying that the desantis s are the only hope to save us from trump, the trump is going to be able to use that effectively against desantis and say you are the establishment figure. i m insurgents again. even though he is president of the united states.
break that down, more. lucy, what are your thoughts on this? yeah, i think that ultimately the 2024 presidential republicans were just going to see that this is a few sad sack for republican establishment types. by some of the missions already 5% of people who are republican primary voters don t think that joe biden won the election. many of them are warm to the events of january six. so, the idea that you are going to run a contrast candidate through pants or through some other we. you ll even see people like larry hogan who is supposedly a never trump stalwart in the republican primary field, now saying that even he would commit to voting for donald trump, kristen nunes saying that he would commit to the voting for donald trump. these are all ambition but they are also all going to become completely irrelevant.
of killing republicans. and mccarthy celebrated his win by taking a selfie with her on the house floor. look, look. moderates. 139 house republicans who voted to overturn the 2020 election, including five out of seven members of the then-house gop leadership team. a sad reality is if there are no moderates or establishment republicans left in this gop caucus. the people you might call moderates, like adam kinzinger, jamie herrera beutler, john those who voted to impeach trump, they are all gone. the people you might call establishment types in the gop, like mitt romney, who voted to the bush family who didn t vote for trump in the last two elections, and they don t exist within the house gop. if you don t believe me, just ask liz cheney who was exiled from the house republican party for daring to hold trump accountable after january the 6th. cheney was kicked out of the gop. house republicans like nancy
the republican party is not a monolith. it has establishment types, it has populous, and some moderates. there are three scenarios, basically, that are possible now, one, the freedom caucus basically take mccarthy s concessions as a win, and enough of them support him for speaker. number two, mccarthy could withdraw and allow another candidate for speaker to be proposed, one who presumably could get 218 votes. you heard a number of people s names mentioned, steve scalese is one. others could emerge as well. a third scenario. moderate and establishment republicans could strike a deal with democrats whereby mccarthy or another republican actually gets to be called speaker, but essentially both parties share power on the committees. now, the third possibility, a lot of people say it s farfetched, never going to happen.
deep state usually has its way. but trump is not most people. and trump isn t the only target. liz cheney has already said that ron desantis is too close to trump, she can t support him. i think we can all assume that we are going to get similar treatment if desantis gets anywhere near the white house. so they want to scare all of us into being silent. they don t believe that the g.o.p. is legitimate unless it s controlled by the establishment types. they are going to oppose anyone who tries to make real policy changes. they are going to use every weapon they have. but we know all this now. we don t believe in the deep state anymore. we don t trust their titles, we are not impressed by the badges. the principal civil servants inside our government, the ones who still like to call balls and strikes, they are smothered by all those who choose corruption and cronyism over professionalism. so i saw them all tonight, they
