Essex County Council has set a ‘steady as you go’ budget. It was a challenging process due to the coronavirus pandemic and most councillors and staff working from home. I voted for the budget and I commend the Essex County Council executive team on its cross-party collaboration. Following years of lobbying, on behalf of the residents of Halstead Division, about further funding for the Braintree Local Highways Panel, I was pleased to vote in support of a £7.2m package for the Essex Local Highways Panels. This will mean that more highway safety improvements are delivered in Braintree District and is in addition to the £13.6m the county council received to fix Essex potholes, an issue of importance for residents.

An online climate change dashboard for Essex would show air pollution, traffic and the number of trees planted and electric vehicles on the road. As part of the Essex Climate Change Commission’s recommendation over steps to reduce CO2 impacts in the county, it says an online dashboard that brings together annual carbon figures alongside more readily available data such as numbers of trees planted, air pollution levels, numbers of car-free streets, numbers of electric vehicles, traffic volumes, renewables capacity and tonnes of waste.
