Mr Javier Nart, Chief Observer
The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) to the 2020 general election has called for the establishment of a reasonable deadline for the ruling on parliamentary election petitions.
That, it said, would increase stakeholder access to an effective remedy and increase public confidence.
“Parliamentary election petitions should be commenced within 21 days after declaration of results just like presidential election petitions,” it suggested in its final report on the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections held on December 7, 2020.
The European Union deployed an EU EOM to Ghana between October 31 and December 30, 2020. In total, the mission comprised 80 observers from EU member states, as well as Norway, Switzerland and Canada.

Mahama condemns high military presence at polls
Former President John Dramani Mahama, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned what he described as high military presence in the just-ended elections.
He said that contributed to the post-election violence, recorded in parts of the country that claimed more than six lives.
Mr Mahama said he was a President before and it was not allowed anywhere in the constitution to use the military to ‘intimidate citizens’ during peaceful elections adding it was the duty of the police to maintain law and order at polls, not the military.
He emphasised Ghana had gone through eight successful elections, saying election 2020 was the worst form of elections the country had conducted since 1992.
