Europe could operate 40,000 km of hydrogen pipelines by 2040: operators

By Reuters Staff 2 Min Read FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Europe could devote 40,000 km (24,800 miles) of natural gas pipelines to hydrogen by 2040 once production and imports of the alternative fuel take off, transmission systems operators (TSOs) said on Tuesday. United Airlines unveils plan to fund more sustainable jet fuel made from trash

3 Min Read (Reuters) -United Airlines said on Tuesday it has partnered with global firms including Nike Inc and Siemens AG in an “Eco-Skies Alliance” to finance use this year of about 3.4 million gallons of low-carbon, sustainable aviation fuel derived from trash. Slideshow ( 2 images ) Though tiny compared with the 4.3 billion gallons of jet fuel that United consumed in 2019 prior to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the amount triples the roughly 1 million gallons of sustainable fuel it has used each year since 2016. Airlines have used sustainable fuel since 2008 as part of efforts to reduce outright emissions, but so far this represents barely 1% of the fuel used worldwide, industry groups say.

Norway s Statkraft to build 102 MW wind farm project in Chile

By Reuters Staff 1 Min Read OSLO (Reuters) - Norwegian power producer Statkraft will build three onshore wind farms with a combined capacity of 102 megawatt (MW) in Chile, its first such units in the South American country, the company said on Monday. In total, the Torsa wind power project is expected to produce more than 300 gigawatt hours (GWh) of renewable energy annually once fully operational by December 2022, enough power to supply 100,000 average Chilean households, Statkraft said. The wind farms are located in the O’Higgins region, 124 kilometres south of the capital Santiago and would help satisfy Chile’s increasing demand for renewable power, it added.

By Reuters Staff 3 Min Read MELBOURNE (Reuters) - Australia’s Fortescue Metals Group, the world’s fourth-largest iron ore miner, has set an ambitious plan to become carbon neutral by 2030, bringing forward the target by 10 years as it aims to start producing green hydrogen as soon as 2023.
