A “Vision Plan” for Grand Avenue in downtown Escondido would include the construction of three roundabouts at the intersections of Broadway, Kalmia and Maple.
Plan also calls for wider sidewalks, removal of street medians (and the eucalyptus trees that grow in them) and diagonal parking along one side of the street.
The plan would cost $15 million.
Four blocks of Grand Avenue in the heart of Escondido’s historic downtown district will change dramatically should a plan be implemented in the coming years that includes wider sidewalks, removal of street medians, diagonal parking, and the construction of three roundabouts.
Last week, the Escondido City council gave the go-ahead to staff to pursue two grants that would give the city $5 million to began the transformation, a process that ultimately will cost $15 million.
