Program on women lighthouse ­keepers coming to Escanaba Library | News, Sports, Jobs

Mar 11, 2021 ESCANABA On Tuesday, March 23 at 6:30 p.m., the Escanaba Public Library, in conjunction with Promote Michigan, will celebrate Women’s History Month with the presentation “Ladies of the Lights,” a virtual program by Dianna Stampfler. Escanaba is familiar with Mary Terry and the Sand Point lighthouse, but there were many more “Ladies of the Lights” around the Great Lakes. They were women before their time, taking on the romantic, yet dangerous and physically demanding job of tending to the beacons that protected the shoreline. In all, some 40 women have been identified who excelled at lighthouse keeping over the years dating back as early as the 1840s and as recent as present day.

Winter Reading Bingo going on now at Esky library | News, Sports, Jobs

Feb 27, 2021 ESCANABA Escanaba Public Library has announced its winter reading promotion for adults and teens, “Winter Reading Bingo,” which began Feb. 22 and will continue through March 26. Readers will have a chance to win one of five weekly prizes of a basket with an assortment of cozy, warming items or one grand prize for a Kindle Fire tablet, drawn on March 29. Readers will be required to complete a bingo vertically, horizontally, or diagonally to earn a raffle ticket and a chance to win prizes. Patrons can complete as many bingos as they like by recording their reading on the corresponding bingo square.

Escanaba library opens for walk-in service | News, Sports, Jobs

Feb 3, 2021 ESCANABA The Escanaba Public Library is now open for walk-in use. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Browsing, check out, computer use, printing, photocopy and fax services will be available with no appointment necessary. Library visits will be limited to one hour and masks are required. In addition to walk-in hours, the library will continue to offer drive-up services from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Library patrons may place their own holds via the library’s online catalog at www.escanabalibrary.org, or call the library at 789-7323 for staff assistance. Materials return, photocopy, scan and fax services are also provided via drive-up. Free WiFi is available both inside and outside of the building. Users can access the library’s wireless printer from the parking lot and pick up prints at the drive-up window.

Tax assistance offered at Escanaba library | News, Sports, Jobs

Jan 12, 2021 ESCANABA AARP will offer free tax assistance at the Escanaba Public Library. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest free tax assistance and preparation service. This program offers free tax preparation help to anyone, especially those who are 50 or older and are of low to middle income. Membership in AARP is not required. Services are provided locally at the Escanaba Public Library. Please call the library at 906-789-7323 to register. Registration will be taken only during the scheduled hours of 9 to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday. Due to Covid 19 restrictions this year, each taxpayer AARP services will be required to have two appointments, one to bring in their documents and fill out an intake form, and a second one to review and sign their prepared return. Taxpayers will not be allowed to remain while their return is prepared. Because of this, AARP is limiting the initial number of registrations to 150.
