Earlier on Wednesday, President Reuven Rivlin harshly condemned Tuesday s pogrom and riots by an Arab mob, and was critical of what he called the silence of Arab leaders in Israel on the events.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the incidents are reminiscent of sights from our people s past, and we cannot accept that. During a visit in the northern city of Acre, where businesses were torched the night before, he vowed to stop anarchy and bring back sovereignty to Israel s cities with an iron fist if necessary.

The United Arab List party froze coalition talks on Monday in the wake of escalations in Jerusalem and the south, according to sources involved in the talks.
Earlier in the day, Yesh Atid chairman Yair Lapid said that the remaining issues that need to be settled before forming a new government are not large.
“Within days, we can swear in a new, functioning government based on broad agreements and the common good,” Lapid said “Forming a government is never an easy task. Not everyone will get what they want. But there’s an understanding that everyone is a partner in it. We all understand that the country needs a change of direction.”

Yamina leader Naftali Bennett met with United Arab List Chairman Mansour Abbas Sunday, leading members of his party to believe that a government may be formed this week, ending Israel s political deadlock after four elections in under two years.
Sources in Yamina believe that Abbas will support a government led by Bennett and Yesh Atid s Yair Lapid so long as his demands are met. Abbas did not finish outlining his demands during his meeting with Bennett, but political sources said he is interested in joining the government. A trilateral meeting between Abbas, Bennett and Lapid is planned for Monday.
