While Russian as well as other languages are widespread alongside the Ukrainian language in Ukraine, interest in Ukrainian has increased due to the ongoing war. The Ukrainian city of Kharkiv was hit by rockets and artillery fire again on Thursday, seven people were killed and 11 injured. ERR correspondents Astrid Kannel and Tarmo Aarma were in the city at the time.
Normal life is slowly returning to Ukraine's second largest city Kharkiv. However, battles can be heard on the outskirts of town and residential areas are still seeing scattered missile attacks. The city is largely empty after hundreds of thousands have evacuated.
