JONAH RASKIN : FILM | The War at Home

By Jonah Raskin | SONOMA COUNTY, California As Austinites and their friends and comrades all across Texas know, the coasts, east and west, often get more media coverage than the heartland, and that part of the U.S. often described, unfortunately, as “fly over country.” Fly over it and much is missed. Dozens of books and films tell the story of Berkeley in the Sixties. Also, a great deal has been written about the many demonstrations that shook the nation’s capital to protest against segregation and the War in Vietnam. The ANWR fight continues across generations

The ANWR fight continues across generations Author: Michael Carey Published January 27 Share on Facebook Print article If celebrity means getting in the news and staying in the news, as wags have cracked, the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge has achieved celebrity. PERATROVICH recognized in recent Google Doodle

KETCHIKAN (KDN) — Google on Wednesday replaced its search page logo with an illustration of civil rights leader Elizabeth Peratrovich, to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the day she and her husband wrote a letter to Alaska s territorial governor demanding equal rights for Alaska Natives. The Google Doodle, illustrated by Sitka artist Michaela Goade, depicts Peratrovich speaking at a lectern, evoking her impassioned remarks for equal rights delivered to the territorial Senate in 1945. Behind her is a blue raven drawn in a traditional formline style, wings spread, holding the sun in his mouth. Speaking with Google in a Q&A for the doodle, Goade said she was honored to be approached for the project.
