THE POLICE officer on trial for murdering Dalian Atkinson swore and told his partner to strike the former football with her baton as lay he injured, a jury has heard.
The two officers were called to a disturbance at 1:30am in Meadow Close, Telford at Mr Atkinson’s father’s home in August 2016 after neighbours heard shouting.
Ernest Atkinson recalled that his son was “not in his right mind” and recounted that he had said: “I’m alive, I’m the Messiah, and I’ve come to kill you.”

THE JURY IN the Dalian Atkinson murder trial at Birmingham Crown Court heard a statement Thursday from the former footballer’s father that his son was “not in his right mind” on the night he was tasered outside his family home.
The statement was given to officers by the then 85-year-old Ernest Atkinson a week after his son’s death.

A witness has told a court she feared Dalian Atkinson was dead as a police officer repeatedly “stamped” on the ex-footballer’s head.
Jean Jeffrey-Shaw told a jury she had to look away as the former Aston Villa star was Tasered, fell to the ground and was then stamped on several times, when she believed he had stopped moving.
The Crown alleges West Mercia PC Benjamin Monk murdered the retired striker by kicking him in the head at least twice, intending serious harm, while the officer’s then partner, PC Mary Ellen Bettley-Smith, struck blows with a baton out of anger.

The Dalian Atkinson murder trial has heard the ex-footballer’s father told police his son was not in his right mind on the night he was Tasered outside his family home.
On the third day of a trial at Birmingham Crown Court, jurors were read a statement given to officers by Ernest Atkinson a week after his son’s death on August 15, 2016.
Mr Atkinson, who has since died, told police his son had grabbed him around the throat after “pounding” on the door of his home in Meadow Close in Telford, Shropshire, in the early hours.

The Crown alleges West Mercia Pc Benjamin Monk murdered the ex-Aston Villa star by kicking him in the head intending serious harm, while the officer s then partner, Pc Mary Ellen Bettley-Smith struck blows with a baton out of anger.
Jean Jeffery-Shaw told Birmingham Crown Court she was so ‘traumatised’ after watching the police ‘kill a man’ outside her bedroom window that she was forced to consult her GP.
It comes after a statement written by Mr Atkinson s father Ernest before his own death told the murder trial he warned police his son was not in his right mind on the night he was Tasered.
