H B No 6657: Connecticut s remedy to human trafficking

H.B. No. 6657: Connecticut’s remedy to human trafficking Ending human trafficking and protecting endangered children must become a policy priority in Connecticut. This year the judiciary committee introduced H.B. No. 6657: An act concerning human trafficking. This bill raises some important and necessary statutory remedies to issues regarding human trafficking in Connecticut. For many, human trafficking means the sexual exploitation of young men and women. In reality, it is much more than that. Human trafficking is defined as any situation of exploitation that a person cannot refuse or leave because of threats, violence, coercion, deception, and/or abuse of power. Often overlooked, labor trafficking the crime of using force, fraud, or coercion to induce another individual to work or provide service. Common types include agriculture, domestic work, restaurants, cleaning services, and carnivals.

Statewide ordinances recommended by CT task force on human trafficking at massage businesses

Statewide ordinances recommended by CT task force on human trafficking at massage businesses FacebookTwitterEmail A spa in Connecticut.Ned Gerard / Hearst Connecticut Media A state task force studying human trafficking and prostitution at massage businesses issued its first recommendations Wednesday, calling for developing new state laws to regulate the industry, increasing coordination of investigations, beefing up public awareness campaigns and using asset forfeiture to deter these crimes. Lawmakers who lead the task force plan to introduce legislation in the 2021 Connecticut legislative session. “I plan for us to have a proposal,” said Rep. Jillian Gilchrest, D-West Hartford, a task force co-chair and leader of the Trafficking in Persons Council. “In the past there’s been usually an all encompassing trafficking bill and so it would be my hope that we would get one or two recommendations from this work included in that larger package.”
