A contract between the Town of Kiawah Island and a local developer has expired, and the town says the required transfer of Captain Sams Spit has not happened.
Kiawah Island s mayor announced his resignation in a letter he read at a town council meeting. Kiawah will hold a special election in April to fill the seat.
The Dec. 17 nor’easter brought heavy rainfall with record high tides that peaked at 9.86 feet and higher-than-predicted flooding throughout the city and along the coast. Folly Beach, Sullivan s Island, Isle of Palms and Kiawah Island reported flooding and significant beach erosion.
