Shawnee County’s COVID-19 Community Transmission and Severity scorecard rose one point despite seeing improvements in multiple areas, but changes are coming to the scorecard soon.
Erin Locke, Shawnee County health officer, said future scorecards will no longer count the number of cases with no known source of infection and one other metric. She wasn’t able to share what will be the second item removed.
The Shawnee County commissioners have been critical of the scorecard recently and pushed the health department to make changes to it. Some commissioners were hoping to see vaccine information and recovery rates on the scorecard.

The Shawnee County commissioners approved a contract with Erin Locke to serve as the county’s new health officer.
Locke has a master in public health from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and currently serves as the COVID-19 incident command liaison officer at the Holton Community Hospital, where she currently works.
“She brings that knowledge for the COVID-19 response to Shawnee County,” said Craig Barnes, division manager of the health department s Community Health Outreach and Planning program, at Thursday’s commissioners meeting. “We are extremely excited about the potential of having Dr. Erin Locke as our health officer.”
