(FOX 9) - The 37th annual John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon came down to the wire Tuesday night, with only seven seconds separating the winner and the second-place finisher.  Rookie musher Erin Letzring of Skagway, Alaska beat out previous champion Ryan Redington of Wasilla, Alaska, becoming the first female musher to win the Beargrease Marathon since 1998.

(KEYC) — This year’s John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon has wrapped up with a new champion. In her first race as a musher, Erin Letzring has claimed her first title by edging out defending champion Ryan Redington to become the first female musher to win the Duluth-to-Grand Portage race since 1998. ”That is pretty cool, that’s pretty neat to change that and get a woman back on top of the scoreboard there,” Letzring said.

That is, until the dogs were given the command to move. Then they fell utterly silent as they threw their weight into the traces . and the crowds took over with whooping and cheering and yes, cowbell.  This year will be a lot different.
