Area could flirt with 70 degrees out ahead of a storm system that will change some things by the end of this work week. That system arrives late tuesday night bringing the chance for rain and thunderstorms through the first part of wednesday. Behind that system will come a shot of colder air for thursday and friday. Late our top story this morning. A Virginia Police officer is dead this morning after being shot and on her frist day back with the department. Officer Ashley Guindon died after being shot saturday night. She and two other Prince William county officers were on the scene of a domestic dispute in woodbridge when they were shot. The altercation between the officers who and the suspect began. Police say another woman was found dead at the scene when they arrived. Meanwhile, two officers remain in the hospital recovering from their injuries. The superintendent says they closed Sheffey Elementary School this morning. He says there were minor leaks. But were still able to cut water on and off as needed. Including meals. And letting students use the bathroom. The superintendent says they were not able to turn the water on and off today because of a part needed. So they decided to cancel class. They expect it to be fixed today. And classes will resume tomorrow. There is an alert system for parents. But they did not send anything out because they were able to have water as needed. Roanoke county schools administrators are updating crisis policies. This comes after last weeks shooting threat at northside high wasnt community meeting. The heavy freezing rain added weight to the limbs and power lines last night causing a lot of damage. There are still thousands of people in the dark this evening and appalachian power continues to work hard on restoring it as soon as possible. Rising rivers and creeks are also a concern with the rapid snow melt and the heavy rain from last night. As you can see behind me, tinker creek is moving at a swift pace.
