Six Russian warships passed through Soya Strait, which separates Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido and Russia’s Sakhalin Island, early Monday, according to the Japanese government.
Japan's top spokesman said Friday the government lodged a protest against Russia through diplomatic channels, adding that the drill had been conducted without prior notice.
