President reaffirms commitment against racism
Dear students, faculty and staff,
As the nation awaits the verdict of Derek Chauvin’s murder trial, I am reaching out to reaffirm that SUNY Cortland is committed to maintaining an environment where students from all backgrounds can thrive and grow as members of a caring, inclusive community. Each of you – regardless of your background, race or beliefs – deserves to be safe and treated with respect.
However, we recognize that racism is part of the daily experience of many SUNY Cortland students of color, and high-profile cases of unarmed Black and brown citizens being killed by police can be traumatic. Many members of our community probably feel frightened, angry and unsure of their place in American society. Please know that you have a place at SUNY Cortland and we support you.

President shares details on Commencement Walk
Dear students,
Although the pandemic impacted Commencement plans this year, I am happy to share that SUNY Cortland will hold an in-person ceremonial walk for all interested graduating students that will be livestreamed for your families.
Details of the event are still being finalized. I can, however, share the following information:
The walk will take place on Wednesday, May 12 and Thursday, May 13 in Lusk Field House. You will have to register for a specific time slot. More information on the sign-up process will be shared shortly.
COVID-19 safety measures such as face coverings and physical distancing will be enforced during the walk.
President encourages students to meet with advisors
Dear students,
SUNY Cortland anticipates returning to in-person classes in Fall 2021. As we continue to make plans for our return, I want to remind you about the importance of meeting with your academic advisor and registering for classes. Planning ahead will help ensure a successful start in the fall.
Please remember that you must schedule an appointment with your academic advisor to get your PIN before registering for classes at your assigned time. Your advisor can be an excellent resource, especially if you send questions before you meet.
