Ahead of another summer of record-breaking temperatures, the Fair Food Program a major partnership between retailers, farmers, and farmworkers offers the strongest legally binding protocols in the nation to keep the state’s workers safe when weathering extreme conditions.
Farmworker Luis Alejandro Barrera received $1,000 from new non-profit organization Semillero de Ideas – "nursery of ideas" – for his idea to add cushioning to the straps on the harness that holds the bucket.
The non-profit wants to provide a safe place for farmworkers to share their ideas to "improve the dignity of work on the farm."
"We knew that farmworkers are and will always be experts of innovation in ag," board president Saul Martinez said.
