Dressed in matching blue caps and gowns, Krista Helms, 22, and her father, Erik Helms, 41, both graduated with associate degrees from Central Texas College Friday.
âItâs taken me almost 42 years to get here,â Erik Helms said.
After 20 years of military service, Erik Helms said he was excited to set his sights on his original goal of graduating college.
âThis was something Iâve always wanted to do for myself, but Iâve always had to take care of my family first,â he said.

Novant Health hired a chief payor performance officer, which experts say seems to be a novel role among health system C-suites.
Erik Helms, who was chief performance officer for Buckeye Health Plan, will oversee Novant s payer relationships and pricing strategy. Executive compensation and governance experts said they hadn t seen that specific positions carved out by health systems.
Health system executive roles ebb and flow year to year. Technology, population health, reimbursement and telehealth have been relatively new additions to the health system C-suite, but some will naturally rise or wane.
