Indiana snow artist amazed by response to snow Baby Yoda Rick Horton has made it an annual tradition to create a work of art out of the snow at his Greenfield home. That’s where you’ll find Grogu, a Baby Yoda from the Mandalorian Star Wars TV series, made from snow. The pea green-skinned alien in a brown robe is the latest creation of snow artist Rick Horton.   The five foot tall snow sculpture stands on a snow pedestal in Horton’s front yard.  

UPDATE: Crash at M-53, Ruth woman, 29, dies in crash on Van Dyke

UPDATE: IMLAY TWP. The Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office reports that a 29-year-old woman was killed Friday (Jan. 15) in a traffic accident on M-53 (Van Dyke) at the curve south of Bowers Rd. Detective/Sgt. Jason Parks said police, firefighters and emergency crews were alerted to the head-on crash at around 8:17 a.m. He noted that the initial report indicated that black smoke and flames were emanating from the woman’s vehicle while she was still trapped inside. He said a passing motorist with a fire extinguisher stopped at the scene and was able to extinguish the fire. Parks identified the victim, Megan Griffith, 29, as the only occupant in a southbound 2008 Pontiac Torrent.

01/15/2021 Mike Shannon’s 50th season calling radio broadcasts for the St. Louis Cardinals will apparently be his last. St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Dan Caesar reports that Shannon, 81, will close out his broadcasting career with the 2021 season. Beginning in 1972, the longtime announcer began calling games on KMOX with legendary play-by-play man Jack Buck following a nine-year playing career with the Cardinals. In those nine seasons, Shannon mostly played third base and right field, compiling a .255 average and .698 OPS with 116 doubles, 68 home runs, and 367 RBI. He played on two World Series championship teams in 1964 and 1967. His playing career was cut short by a kidney disease, glomerulonephritis.

Hoping to help more people this winter, Workforce Solutions is seeking more participants for these free job services, according to Goodwill Northern New England, in a news release.  “The opioid crisis has had severe impacts on workers nationally and Maine is no exception,” said Antoinette Mancusi, executive director of Coastal Counties Workforce, Inc. “Opioid abuse affects both employed and unemployed individuals – we know the effects of addiction are widespread. This grant will help support both people who have used opioids directly and family members.
