With wet shorts on and no change of clothes, he was in his girlfriend s driveway around 11:30 p.m. planning to go home, put on some dry clothes and prepare for a gym session the next morning. But his girlfriend urged him to stay and let her dry his clothes. He agreed.

Searchers dug a 40-foot-deep trench through the site to assist with their efforts. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said rescue work is proceeding slowly in part because the 136-unit building s rubble itself has forensic value. Nine people have been confirmed dead, with eight of them being pulled from the debris. The other died in the hospital Sunday.
