Erick D’Moura was visiting his girlfriend near Surfside late Wednesday night when he decided to take a dip in the water.
With wet shorts on and no change of clothes, he was in his girlfriend s driveway around 11:30 p.m. planning to go home, put on some dry clothes and prepare for a gym session the next morning. But his girlfriend urged him to stay and let her dry his clothes. He agreed.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said rescue work is proceeding slowly in part because the 136-unit building s rubble itself has forensic value.
